Boardman Family Chiropractic – Services
CHIROPRACTIC: At the heart of chiropractic care is the spinal adjustment. Vertebra (spinal bones) out of alignment cause pressure on the nerves, which can result in symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, loss of range of motion, and others. This condition is called a subluxation. The adjustment corrects improper positioning of the vertebra which relieves nerve pressure/interference. A person may have a subluxation and have no symptoms whatsoever. However, if it remains out of alignment, eventually symptoms are likely to occur.
SPINAL DECOMPRESSION: Spinal decompression is non-surgical, FDA cleared procedure specifically designed to treat severe spinal conditions such as herniated/bulging discs, disc degeneration, sciatica, stenosis, facet arthritis and numbness and tingling into the upper or lower extremities. Many patients who have been told they will need surgery, have enjoyed a very high success rate under our care with this procedure. The treatment gently pulls/stretches the spine which reverses the high pressure in the disc, and draws the bulging disc material and nutrients back into the disc itself.
SPORTS INJURY REHAB: Unique to our clinic, we treat many athletes from high school, recreational, to professional. Dr. Boardman’s training, collegiate athletic background, and degree in exercise physiology position him to treat many sports injuries in areas outside the spine. Some of the more common injuries include: rotator cuff, sprained ankles, strained muscles, and tennis elbow. Adjustments combined with muscle release and massage therapy techniques yield outstanding results.
PHYSIOTHERAPY: Physiotherapy treatments are an adjunct therapy provided to assist with and improve the outcome of the adjustment. These treatments include therapeutic exercise, rehabilitation, intersegmental traction, neuromuscular rehab, and CORE strengthening. They can be applied to the spine or extremity injuries such as rotator cuff injuries. Pain relief is only part of the healing process, but the muscles of the affected areas must be strengthened in order to help the person return to the activities they enjoy most.
PREGNANCY CARE: In peer-reviewed studies, chiropractic has demonstrated to be one of the most effective means of pain management during the course of pregnancy. Most physicians recommend not taking pain medication as it can often affect the baby. During pregnancy there are many changes the body undergoes. As the baby develops, weight gain in the front increases the pull/curve of the low back and puts more stress on the lower vertebra and pelvis, and can lead to low back pain and sciatica. Hormones such as Relaxin are released which allows the ligaments and tissues to soften and stretch to accommodate for the stress on the spine and pelvis. But because of this, often times women are not able to hold their adjustments and will need light strengthening exercises to help stabilize. It is very important that the spine and the pelvis be in proper alignment during pregnancy and at the time of delivery.
FAMILY/CHILDREN CARE: We strive to keep families and kids in proper alignment, allowing them to enjoy all the activities they desire to the fullest. Studies have demonstrated that by the time a child is 3 years old they will have fallen approximately 200 times! But often times we dismiss it because young kids are “more resilient” and can handle it. What would you feel like if you fell 200 times in a few years? You’d probably be in the hospital! Kids these days are often carrying backpacks that weigh more than the recommended 10-15% of their body weight. This leads to increase loading on the spine. From work, to sports, to sitting, to posture, they all will have an impact on the spine. What affect will it have on yours or your child’s? Don’t wait until you are in pain to take charge of your health. Dr. Boardman recommends that all family members have a spinal checkup to prevent issues and help maintain an active, healthy lifestyle.
MASSAGE THERAPY: Massage therapy has been one of the integral parts of Dr. Boardman’s approach to care for over 18 years. The combination of the adjustment with therapeutic massage and exercises, has provided some of the best results for our patients with acute or chronic pain. Massage therapy not only helps to work out the knots and increase blood supply, but assists the adjustment by making lasting changes to the muscles and soft tissues. Our Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) is trained in a number of techniques, but primarily utilizes Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, and Sports Injury Massage to treat our patients. So whether you are looking for just a relaxing 30 or 60-minute massage, or really want to focus on problem areas, Dr. Boardman and our LMT will design the sessions specifically for you.
